What an unexpected journey this has been. I am loving everything about teaching yoga. I love sharing this experience with old friends and new, it is something special meeting like-minded people and making new connections. Yoga has been part of my life for a long time, and honestly I never thought that teaching would be the path I would take.
Signing up for teacher training, I was hoping I would deepen my understanding of what yoga was about and improve my own personal practice. In fact, the thought of standing in front of people, teaching, speaking, and posing was an absolutely terrifying prospect. The few times in the past I had to deliver a talk in front of a group of people, my heart raced, I felt the unrelenting thump thump thump of my blood pulsing in my ears, the lightheadedness, the thinking I am slurring as time slows down …. even thinking about public speaking of any kind and ...whoa.

But, we don’t grow without moving beyond our comfort zone, if we stay safely cocooned in our daily world, nothing changes, we become stale. Every time I pushed myself, I was rewarded with the realisation that I am okay, I can do this, oh look I didn’t pass out. Not to mention I had amazing teachers and an awesome group of fellow learners who supported each other all the way, and still do. I will be forever be grateful to them all for their encouragement and love and support that led me here. When my pulse was racing and stomach churning, I made myself take deep breaths and told myself you got this, then I would be able to let go and just go with the flow. Mind over matter, it is not easy, but like everything, we improve the more we try something. Sometimes the things we think we can’t do, but want to do, are probably the things we should be doing. When you let go, you become more open to experiences and opportunities. Because there are experiences and opportunities waiting for everyone, whether you take them or not is what makes the difference in your life.

The universe is constantly throwing opportunities your way. If you are open to them, who knows where it might take you. Is this an opportunity for you? Have you thought you might like to do yoga, but you’re not really sure? Maybe you think that you need to be flexible, or have the ‘right’ body or look? Maybe the idea of going into a studio feels scary and intimidating. I get that. But there is no judgement here.
A dear friend who I have tried to get to yoga for years, felt all those things, and they were her reasons not to go. I am so excited that she finally started coming to classes a few weeks ago. Last night she sent me a text telling me she always felt good after yoga, that she found it challenging and fun at the same time and that yoga rocks. And that there, is why I teach.
I believe everyone can benefit from yoga and I really want to share that amazing feeling. Maybe you have been led here to read this for a reason. Is today the day you decide to let go of whatever is holding you back and see where the universe leads you? Is it time for you to venture onto the mat, and move your body, free your mind and soothe your soul? I really hope so.
Love and laughter always,
Amanda
